An electric vehicle revolution has finally started hitting the road and a Middlesbrough shopping centre has taken the first steps to ensure it is prepared.
Hillstreet Shopping Centre has installed two electric car charging points in partnership with InstaVolt, which installs and maintains rapid electric vehicle charging units across the UK.
The new units will give electric vehicle drivers access to the fastest and simplest charging available and can easily be accessed in the centre’s ground floor car park.
The InstaVolt service is available to use on a pay as you go basis, with no subscription or membership required. Drivers simply tap their contactless credit or debit card, charge up and be back on the road in minutes.
The hassle-free approach has recently seen the firm top the user satisfaction rankings for electric car charging networks in the UK that can be used by multiple models of electric vehicle.
Peter Drabble, centre manager at Hillstreet, said: “We are always looking for ways to minimise our impact on the environment and helping to encourage the use of electric vehicles is a really big part of that.
“As more and more people drive electric vehicles, having somewhere where they can charge is incredibly important.
“We know from the feedback we have already received from our customers that this is something that has been well received at Hillstreet and we’re delighted to be able to offer this rapid charging service to our shoppers.”
The electric charging installation at Hillstreet comes as the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show the registration of pure electric vehicles doubled in February this year compared to 2018.
March was a record-breaking month for InstaVolt, with an impressive 72 rapid chargers installed, which possibly represents the highest number of rapid chargers installed by an operator in a single month within the UK.
The chargers have been installed at driver-friendly locations including petrol stations, roadside diners, Starbucks drive thru branches, supermarkets, shopping centres and retail parks.
